Hand-carved and hand-painted 3D Landscapes with reclaimed wood and Ryde Pier cast-iron slivers
Back in 2022/23 Ryde Pier was being repaired and the new Walkway built. During this time many of the original Victorian cast-iron pier supports were repaired or pieces replaced.
Lots of ancient cast-iron debris fell into the sea and was then washed up on Ryde Beach, ready for beachcombers like me to find!
All these hand-carved pieces have a piece of Ryde Pier as their embedded centrepiece.
Due to the random nature of each chunk of cast-iron, each piece has taken on a quirky, slightly surreal aspect.
The result is a 3D landscape based on the randomness of the cast-iron sliver along with that of the bed of reclaimed wood, with its unique set of knots and whorls.
